Avui us explicarem una història sobre una de les cançons del nostre repertori “Wade in the water”.
Aquesta no és típicament una cançó de gospel sinó que és un espiritual negre, les cançons que cantaven els esclaus a les plantacions, són cants de llibertat. Aquestes cançons tenen una doble interpretació. Per una banda, podem veure com es descriu una part de la Bíblia (Èxode dels poble d’Israel per fugir dels Egipcis) d’aquesta manera els blancs les consideraven inofensives. Per l’altre, hi ha un codi dels esclaus per comunicar-se sense que els amos ho sabessin, i aquesta cançó apareix com a part d’aquell codi. Els esclaus al cantar-la estarien avisant a altres esclaus fugitius que els amos havien sortit amb gossos a buscar-los i que fugissin per l’aigua. La lletra diu aneu pel mig del riu, Dèu enterbolirà les aigües i els gossos no podran seguir el rastre.
